A Couple Stops Along The Way

Indianapolis Motor Speedway

I made a few stops on the way to Maryland. The first was near Indianapolis to visit a friend, where we spent a day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to watch the time trials. I camped at a small campground north of Indianapolis, and everything went smoothly. I'm getting better at towing the car, but it still seems like a bit of a chore.

Campsite at Cooper's Rock State Forest

My next stop was Cooper's Rock State Forest where stayed a day and hiked a short trail before moving on.

A Trip To My First Chinook Camping Club Rally

So I left in my RV today to meet up with the members of a club I joined over a year ago. I'm looking forward to spending time with other Chinook owners. Although I now know how to use all my RV systems, I'm sure there's more I can learn from all the folks who have RVs just like mine.

The Rally is at Cherry Hill Park, in College Park, MD. I'm looking forward to touring Washington, D.C., and then I'll be driving on down the east coast to Savannah, GA, and back home by way of Atlanta, GA, and Alabama.

A Job in Virginia

I took a travel nursing job in Norfolk, VA, for three months, and ended up staying another month after that. While I was there, I took little trips on weekends, and did a lot of sightseeing in the area. While I was on this assignment, my poor RV and tow car sat, unused, at home. It will be fun to use them again! Eventually, some of the more interesting things I saw in Virginia will be posted as hikes and drives.

LoW 40th Anniversary Rally

The next trip I took was to the 40th Anniversary Rally of the Loners on Wheels club. It was held at the Goshen, IN, fairgrounds and there were over 250 attendees, each in their own RV. As the name implies, it is a club for singles who travel in RVs. It was a lot of fun!

Goshen, IN, Fair Grounds

I met a lady with much more life experience than me, who, when she found out I still hadn't used my propane, grabbed me by the hand and marched me into my RV to show me how to light my stove. After realizing that my propane was turned off at the tank, and fixing that, she lit my stove without incident, and I tried the hot water heater, and learned that I now could unplug, and the fridge would switch to gas. Wow! The possibilities that opened up.

I also got my rig weighed, and was told the proper tire inflation (which was close to what I was using anyway), and also that my rig was not even close to being overloaded and was well balanced, meaning to me that I could take a whole lot more stuff with me when I traveled.

BreyerFest

BreyerFest is an Annual national festival celebrating Breyer model horses and everything about collecting them, customizing and painting them, and showing them. Yes, they have model horse shows, and BreyerFest has one of the biggest shows in the country.

BreyerFest

BreyerFest at Kentucky Horse Park

During the 3-day event, held on the grounds and in the buildings of the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, a nonstop parade of live horse events is going on in the main horse arena, complete with vendor booths all around the perimeter behind the seating, while collectors are showing their best models in another barn. Even when BreyerFest is not running, The park is a must-see if you like horses. There are museums, and outdoor exhibits including barns with carriage horses and carriage rides.

Lots of Models

I had a three-day ticket, which included entrance to the park for the duration of BreyerFest, a model horse made just for the event, and an opportunity to purchase two additional limited edition models. You might ask why I sometimes attend this event. I no longer collect Breyer horses, but did when I was younger. My collection consists of about 300 or so horses, and a few other animals, and it is one of the things I never got rid of. It is fun to see all the kids and parents who are immersed in this hobby, and seeing so many models in one place is awesome.

During BreyerFest, I got lots of practice hooking and unhooking the electric and water from my RV since I had to drive it from the campground to the Horse Park parking lot each day. It was kind of nice, however, to be able to go sit in my RV and have a lunch break and unload the stuff I had acquired that otherwise would have been dragged around with me all day. I enjoyed the week in my RV and was really getting more comfortable with it. But I still have lots more to learn.
